Fashion schools like Central Saint Martins, Parsons, and FIT graduate loads of great designers each year. Some of these new designers you’ve heard of, but many of them may have remained a bit under the radar. So we want to highlight a few of these new designers, all of whom make up this lot of trained and talented newcomers on the scene.
Calla
Calla Haynes, 29, was born in Toronto, and has been living in Paris for the past 8 years. After attending Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris, she worked with Olivier Theyskens at Rochas and Nina Ricci where she honned her textile and print design skills. The brand is based on Haynes’ idea of “relaxed luxury” – a collection that is unique and crafted, while at the same time modern and easy to wear. Her strong print designs are the foundation of each collection. Haynes was a finalist for the prestigious ANDAM award in 2010, France’s largest prize for young fashion designers. (via Calla.fr)
Laura Theiss
With a background in business studies, Lithuanian-born knitwear designer Laura Theiss graduated in 2009 from central Saint Martins and is now dividing herself between Germany and the UK.
Her graduation collection “The World, The Flesh and The Devil” shows her signature style and structual and patterning potential: the designer creates new juxtapositions of shapes and fabrics by pleating, layering and twisting the knits of her dresses and opting for an usual mix of colours, coming up with high contrast, interesting volumes and sporty but sensual pieces.
