Altuzarra’s White Hot Summer

Joseph Altuzarra Spring 2011

New York’s love child Joseph Altuzarra presented Spring collection that took me a while to warm up to. Unlike his Fall collection, which was understandably more subdued with natural colors, Spring was a bright contrast of color and angles. Using geometric python designs and bands of neon color on a black and white palette—and not just white, but white white—Altuzarra created a unique collection for the hot nights of high summer.

What I came to appreciate in Altuzarra’s collection was the designer’s specific, unusual direction. The Spring designs are fierce and, in ways, recall the Miami scene in the days of Gianni Versace. It’s not often are young designers willing to venture far from fashion’s contemporary repertoire; Altuzarra did.
