In 2005, Hyden Yoo moved to New York to begin his career in fashion design. The Korea-born designer was starting fresh, however, because Yoo had no formal design training. But it wasn’t too long before Yoo landed some internships and slowly began to cultivate his skill.
After setting out designing only a handful of pieces, Yoo launched his full menswear collection in the Fall of 2008. Eventually, the designer introduced womenswear, and now, for Fall 2011, Yoo has sizable collection under his eponymous label.
Yoo’s designs are contemporary and traditional. The designer uses natural fabrics to create pieces that don’t require extensive planning and coordination to pull off. After all, Yoo set out designing his first menswear collection with the idea that he would create a line of men’s dress shirts that were easy to wear outside of the office. Yoo’s designs are practical and easy to wear, but they maintain a keen aesthetic.
