Dutch designer Marga Weimans has little difficulty making her name known. Since her graduation in 2005 from the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Art, the young designer has established herself within the exclusive world of dress design. Of course, her recent feature in Vogue Italy has helped.
Weimans probably wouldn’t describe her creations as simply “dresses”, because they’re indeed much more than that. She says they’re part clothing and part architecture, an influence that I can see. But most obviously though are the theatrical elements that make up her designs. For me, her dresses rely more on grandeur and exaggeration than architecture. Still, that’s largely a trivial observation, as I’m sure Weimans would agree her influences are as far reaching as her dresses.
